A special demonstration run was held for the Project Sponsors and Supporters on the morning of 18th July 2008.
The unit had operated a test run on the evening of 15th July and a couple of minor problems attended to.
An additional service was arranged before the first service train of the day on 18th July, attended by representatives of the Heritage Lottery Fund, project volunteers and SRPS project sponsors. The unit made a return trip to Birkhill where there was a photo opportunity. Unfortunately there was insufficient time to take the unit the full length of the line due to timetable and pathing constraints.
The invitees were treated to a champagne reception on our return to Bo'ness to celebrate this most historic event - one that we have been working hard towards since asbestos was removed in the early 90's, and a day that many had given up hope of ever seeing...
The unit was again in use on the Saturday 19th July - making the first run in revenue earning service together with a run over the complete length of the line.
A short video clip of the Test Run on 15th July 2008.
The engines had been newly rebuilt and burnt a lot of oil before they had been under load long enough to warm up properly.
